Absorbing Qi from Nature
In Taoist philosophy, the natural world is an infinite reservoir of Qi. Every living entity — plants, animals, rivers, mountains — emits and circulates Qi in distinct ways. By aligning ourselves with these energies, we can absorb external Qi into our bodies to replenish and revitalise our internal energy systems.
This practice is based on the principle of Resonance (Gan Ying, 感应) — the idea that when we bring our awareness to an external energy source, we naturally synchronise with its frequency. Just as a tuning fork vibrates when exposed to a matching frequency, the human energy field naturally attunes to and absorbs Qi from sources it focuses on. The more present and mindful we are, the greater our ability to draw in and integrate external energy.
By aligning our breath, mind, and body with natural rhythms, we open ourselves to receiving and harmonising with the Qi of the environment.
This section will explore various methods of external Qi absorption. These techniques can be incorporated into daily life to optimise health and cultivate a deeper connection with the natural world.
This process is not about forcefully pulling in Qi, but rather about entering a state of receptivity, allowing the natural flow of energy to enter and replenish us.
